From the North
Take I -95 South through Providence to exit 9, Route 4 South. Route 4 South merges with Route 1 South. Take the exit for Route 138 East toward Jamestown and Newport. Take the first exit to Route 1A South toward Narragansett. Take your third right onto Snuff Mill Road and follow signs to the Museum.
From the South
Take I-95 North to exit 3 Route 138 East. Follow Route 138 East past URI to Route 1. At the traffic light, turn left onto Route 1 North. Proceed about two miles and turn right onto Gilbert Stuart Road .
From the East
From Newport follow Route 138 West over the Newport Bridge to Jamestown and continue over the Jamestown Bridge. Take the first exit over the bridge to Route 1A South toward Narragansett. Take your third right onto Snuff Mill Road and follow signs to the Museum.

All Visitors: Please check in at the Welcome Center before entering the grounds.
Guided Tours: Tours are given on the hour.
(Latecomers may join the tour in progress or wait for the next tour.)
Guided tours are given by Museum docents and last about 45 - 60 minutes.
The tour includes the Hammond Gristmill, the Birthplace, a discussion of Gilbert Stuart's life and works, colonial daily life, water-powered mill technology, a colonial herb garden, and a fish ladder.
VISITORS TO THE GROUNDS
Visitors may enjoy the grounds, picnic tables, and Nature Trail without the guided tour.
A donation for the enjoyment of the grounds would be greatly appreciated.
Gristmill and Birthplace may only be visited on the Guided Tour.
Museum parking lot is directly across the street from the Welcome Center.
Additional parking is available in a lot directly across the street from the Birthplace.
Children (ages 6-12): $4.00
Bus tours, school field trips, home school groups, scouts, and other groups are welcome!
Group rates are available for groups of 10 or more.
A reservation is required for all group visits.
RENTALS OF THE GROUNDS FOR WEDDINGS, PARTIES, & PHOTOS
The grounds are available to rent for weddings, parties, and photographs. Please call the office (401-294-3001) or email (firstname.lastname@example.org) for information.
Museum members have the exclusive right to rent one of our rowboats to fish or explore the tranquil and pristine 57-acre Carr Pond. Call (401-294-3001) to make a reservation.
